AIA Sandcastle Competition 2010

Yesterday the American Society of Architects hosted the annual AIA Sandcastle Competition of Galveston, TX.  It was a hot hot hot day but oh so much fun!  There were over 100 groups vying for the best sandcastle.   Each group was required to have some sort of affiliation with an AIA member, create a theme and build a castle out of 3 tons of sand representing that theme.
The competition began at 10am and we had until 3pm to create our sandcastle and try to collect as many signatures as possible from beach-goers.  The castles were created from building forms and filling them with as much sand as possible.  Then the forms are removed and sand carvers work their magic.
By Design Interiors is a member of the GHBA, (Greater Houston Builders Association) and they have participated in this event for years.  This year, to coincide with the big 'green' movement, our theme was "Saving Texas Energy." Our castle was to be a cowboy conserving his energy by taking a nap.
But the theme went well beyond our castle.  Our tent and our workers were cowboys as well.
Some pretty good lookin' cowboys at that!
FINISHED!
Not bad!  While we didn't win anything, we sure had a great time!
Wearing the mustaches really was the highlight of the day.  We had thousands of people take our picture and we even appeared on Salsa TV!
