The Most Beautiful Village in France...Fact

The happiest/luckiest couple in the world (or so we tell ourselves) enjoying France at its best. Everyone thinks that the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Notre Dame and all of that define what France is but the most beautiful things can come from the stunning countrysides that dominate much of the southern country.
we visited Pérouges today which, is named the most beautiful village in all of France. Quite a bold statement until you venture up the small hill to the jaw-dropping town. It was filled with gardens, cobble-stone streets, farmers, craftsmen, artists and unique family-owned restaurants.
Through superior photographic techniques AJ took this stunning picture of a field of sunflowers which, complements the views of the surrounding landscape. It exudes a feeling of ancient oneness combined with the continually changing atmosphere. Or something like that.
Naturally, the city is situated on top of a hill that we had to climb and on the way up we saw this field of wild flowers which, Erika fell in love with. As you can tell there is a pattern; AJ= Anything Roman, Erika= Flowers.
Just a nice garden that we were first introduced to when we arrived inside the city walls. It is quite easy to stumble upon such places as they are so common.

The outside wall has houses overlooking it and every single one has a comparable view to this. They are very lucky to live in the city but at the same time there is next to nothing to do in it. The citizens take great pride in their town and it is immaculately kept with an ancient feeling, few cars and no outside commercialization.Pérouges was not only a gorgeous city, it was THE place to get wedding photos done. On our journey through the town we came across 5 couples getting professional photos taken. And the town takes no more than 15 minutes to walk around.
Walking through the cobble streets; there are no paved roads at all in Pérouges. Also, the city was established by the Romans when they built a sentry tower and over time people began to settle there.
It was easy to fall in love with and as you can see the most attractive people visit it from all over.
One of the many beautiful scenes outside of a restaurant. Every few minutes we had to stop and take pictures of the buildings and scenery because it was so beautiful. All of the town was filled with cobble streets and small little gardens filled with fragrant blooming flowers.
This is a pastry called the Galette de Pérouges which, is a famous dessert. There are more of these bakeries than any other shop in Pérouges! The smell of the pastries filled the entire town making it quite impossible not to get one.
This is AJ and Leia as she licks his delicious hands. She is an American Bulldog and our hosts beloved pet. Leia has a strong love for AJ and is a very obedient and loving dog. She took to us very quickly and after a short period of time recognized us as friends.

Tonight, very sadly, will be our last night in France because we leave for Geneva, Switzerland tomorrow night to visit the Alps and eat Swiss chocolate. Yes Alex I will try to find your white Swiss army knife and Bryce where are your comments? So much for being your favorite employees.

Tomorrow may be our last blog post for a while because internet access may not be possible in Geneva for about 5 days. However, be sure to tune in for our social commentary on the whole of France tomorrow!!!

  1. Well, it looks like THE place to end your time in France. I hope you enjoyed being there as much as we have enjoyed reading about it! Erika, do you remember Grandma Sharon taking your picture in the field of Sunflowers in Kansas? I guess it shows you can be half a world away and there are still similarities to home! Love you both - hope to talk to you from Switzerland. MOM

  2. What a beautiful end to your visit in France. So much scenery, culture, people experiences and more. I hope you're writing down the finer details in your journals. Keep posting all the great experiences. Looks like you're both doing well and seeing more than 99% of the world's population will never experience. What a tremendous adventure. Love you both from

  4. Perouges is really quite a beautiful, quaint place. Seems so peaceful and serene. Such a wonderful end to your tour of France. It certainly has been an interesting and very hospitable country. The people who you've met have been wonderful and the country is quite lovely. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures and learning more about Switzerland and Italy. Take care and be safe. Love, Mom
